Blog Traffic Spike

Today was an interesting day, but one that I am happy to see. My total blog traffic more than doubled in a single day today! Excitingly, it validates a new strategy I have been using this week to increase my blog’s online presence. A popular route to promote blogs seems to be Pinterest. I have briefly dabbled in it but it is above my head for now. I decided to try a strategy using a social platform that I understand a little better first, Reddit.

Blog Traffic Growth

Reddit is a haven for identifying target audiences and having them all conveniently grouped into singular places for you. One obstacle, and a necessary one, is that the platform does not generally allow you to shamelessly post self-promo links all over the place. To navigate around this, I have been immersing myself into the community and enjoying the fellow Redditors in my niche subjects. Those natural relationships and trust within the community eventually lead to others asking to know more about your strategies and thoughts. At this point it becomes appropriate to send a quick blog link for them to check out.

All this to say, a rather large community made a post of mine a hot topic and caught fire. This led to a massive amount of blog traffic, mostly geared towards my portfolio and the real-time transaction tracker. However, it is not all fun and games. I clearly have room for improvement in conversion, an extremely low percentage of visitors became subscribers. The good thing is that I’m not surprised as that campaign on my blog could definitely use some work.

Subscriber conversion or not, I learned a lot about driving quality traffic to my blog that I will continue to use going forward.

The famed Reddit post can be found here.
